EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS

Students from the Farmington Valley Academic Montessori school come to the farm periodically over the course of the summer.

With Daren as their guide, these many little hands helped with multiple seedings in the greenhouse; planted plugs out in the field and helped at the wash station cleaning the dirt from various vegetables.

They came away with a better understanding and appreciation about farming and what goes into growing the food they eat – lessons we hope they’ll carry with them as they grow up.

INTERNSHIPS

Each year, the George Hall Farm hosts a limited number of interns. Some are on summer break from college or high school, in between school and the next phase of life, or are just interested and willing to learn about organic farming practices.  They may come for short or long terms, starting in May when we start seeding in the greenhouse and planting in the fields, while others come in July/August for the harvesting season.

While working with us, interns will learn how to farm organically and how to identify and care for plants, both in the field and during the seeding and sprouting stages.

Farming is hard work, but in our experience, the interns walk away with a the knowledge of what good nutritious food is and the impact is has on their health.   They also go out into the world and help spread awareness of organic vs. conventional fruits and vegetables, and most important of all they see how much hard work pays off.
